Australia, International Law and Armed Conflict – What are our obligations?

Our March event is presented in partnership with the Association for the Promotion of International Law. The event will explore Australia, International Law and Armed Conflict –What are our obligations? Our panellists are

  • Leading human rights advocate and legal expert, UN Commissioner Chris Sidoti
  • Professor Emily Crawford, an internationally recognised expert in international law at Sydney Law School, specialising in international humanitarian and criminal law

Chris Sidoti was part of the UN international commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel which stated that the Israeli government and military were committing genocide in Gaza.

Emily Crawford is an internationally recognised expert in international law at Sydney Law School, specialising in international humanitarian and criminal law. She will help to explain Francesca Albanese’s report on Economy of Genocide report and will also address the requirement of countries to address climate change after the International Court of Justice’s ruling on climate that says states are bound under international law to tackle the human-made climate crisis.

Newcastle Institute members only have been sent a special invitation. The event is also open to non-members and the general public. Tickets prices are $20 or $10 (student or concession). To buy tickets please scan the QR code on the attachment or click on this link.

Please note – This will take you to Eventbrite for tickets instead of Wild Apricot which is our usual booking gateway. The event will include a light supper.

Please note – the event is on a different day and different location from the usual Newcastle Institute events. It is on Thursday, 12th March at 6.00pm at the Newcastle Conservatorium.

There will be a high demand for this event so please get in early and get your tickets. While we’ve been away there have been some great ideas put forward that we are working on. It looks like being another informative and challenging year ahead. All the very best to everybody, and we look forward to seeing you at our events
