The Newcastle Institute, together with the University of Newcastle’s Asia Pacific Research Centre, together is hosting a special public lecture and conversation with: The Honourable Kevin Rudd AC, 26th Prime Minister of Australia.
Our thanks to the University team for the live stream of the event which you can see on the YouTube link below.
Mr Rudd will explore the themes from his latest book, The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between the US and Xi Jinping’s China. Mr Rudd will analyse the factors that lie beneath the volatile relationship between China and the United States and its allies, including Australia, and discuss ways these tensions can be controlled without spiralling into crisis, confrontation, and conflict.
Mr Rudd served as Australia’s twenty-sixth Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010 and then as its Foreign Minister from 2010 to 2012, before returning as Prime Minister in 2013. He is the global president and CEO of Asia Society and has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since January 2015.
